The purpose of this position is to assist the Planning & Performance Manager in analysing passenger demand and devising levels (and patterns) of normal and contingency train services that best satisfy the different scenarios whilst meeting the services standards.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Performance & Planning Manager in analysing passenger demand and devise levels of normal and contingency train services that best satisfy the different scenarios whilst meeting the target performance requirements.
- Ensure the services standards can be implemented by the production, review and updating of effective and efficient timetables which meets commercial and operational requirements as well as delivering a world class train system.
- Provide alternate timetable arrangements for emergency and degraded operations.
- Develop and compile special timetables for passengers and engineering trains to meet particular requirements of passenger demand and maintenance work.
- Monitor, test, verify, and review the effectiveness of the timetables and the associated rosters, make necessary adjustments and recommend improvements to contribute to a more productive and efficient provision of services.
- Provide the basis to ensure productivity by the preparation of cost effective rosters taking into account staff requirements.
- Be aware of staff roster issues and make necessary adjustments to provide efficient and effective timetable and duty arrangements.
- Communicate timetable details and management techniques to controllers.
- Work with Resource Planner to assist the Maintenance Planning and Network Access Manager in planning the services around maintenance closures of the railway and devise and arrange replacement bus services on occasions of such closures.
- Perform and carry out other duties as instructed / directed by the Planning & Performance Manager and Head of Planning and Performance.
KEY SKILLS
- Excellent in numeracy skills and PC skills including the use of MS Excel and 2-D graphs as analytical tools.
- Highly motivated and flexible to be able to work in a time-sensitive environment and respond quickly and effectively to unanticipated high workloads, events and emergencies.
- Ability to understand complex systems, possess good IT skills and ability to learn new software based applications.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong organisational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
EXPERIANCE
- A minimum of 1 year, preferably 2 years, of work experience as a timetable/schedule planner.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFCATION
- Ideally a degree holder or high diploma of post-secondary education in a related discipline.
