Rolling Stock Senior Engineer

The Rolling Stock Senior Engineer is the lead technical authority responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and lifecycle integrity of Dubai Metro’s operational assets. The role provides expert engineering guidance, drives complex asset improvement programs, leads technical investigations, and sponsors change management activities across Rolling Stock and Depots including interfacing assets.The Senior Asset Engineer acts as the technical champion for their designated system, ensuring engineering excellence, robust data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement across the Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) function

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic

• Develops and drives engineering strategies aligned with long-term organizational objectives and international rail engineering standards.
• Assesses and recommends asset improvement programs aligned with RAMS, FRACAS, FRB, and ISO 55001/55000 principles.
• Supports reliability-based and lifecycle-focused initiatives to enhance asset performance and availability.
• Supports strategic investment planning through expert technical input and business case development.
• Lead Technical Investigation related to the assets and other interfaces (Power supply, ATC and systems)
• Supports the maintenance team in implementing the asset improvement programs
• Provide technical governance and assurance for rolling stock modifications, refurbishment projects, and system upgrades in compliance with railway standards and safety requirements
• Drive obsolescence management strategies for rolling stock systems and components, ensuring long-term asset sustainability and cost-effective lifecycle management.
• Support the development and optimization of maintenance strategies through Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and data-driven asset management techniques.

Financial

• Does not directly manage budgets but significantly influences financial outcomes through optimized maintenance regimes and lifecycle planning.
• Contributes engineering justification for system upgrades, technology adoption, and data/reporting enhancements.

Stakeholder / Customer 

• Acts as senior technical interface with Maintenance teams, Senior Section Managers, Operations, IT, PMO, and Engineering Projects.
• Leads cross-functional collaboration to ensure engineering outputs support PM/CM execution.
• Represents Engineering in FRB, Change Management, ACCA, and project transition activities.

Operational

• Leads complex engineering investigations, trend analysis, and system performance assessments.
• Drives continuous improvement aligned with FRACAS and ensures timely closure of Engineering Technical Investigations.
• Develops and updates engineering documentation, procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
• Sponsors and manages change processes for asset modifications and new technologies.
• Leads development of advanced data models, dashboards, automation, and predictive analytics.
• Ensures compliance with RAM, RAMS, ISO 55000 series and internal engineering governance.
• Supports contractual KPI reporting with accuracy and consistency.

Capability / People

• Provides technical leadership and mentoring to Rolling stock Engineers and junior engineers.
• Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities and the ability to deputize for the Rolling Stock Engineering Manager when required, ensuring continuity of engineering governance, decision-making, and operational support
• Encourages best practices in engineering assurance, data analysis, and system understanding.
• Acts as designated competent person for their system Rolling Stock and Depot system and other related interfaces.
• Leads cross-functional engineering initiatives and complex projects with organization-wide impact.

DIMENSIONS 

• Operates within the Engineering Department and reports to the Rolling stock Senior Engineer.
• Influences asset management and engineering decisions across multiple technical disciplines.
• Interfaces with cross-functional departments to support maintenance planning, data analytics, engineering assurance, and project-to-engineering transitions.
• Provides engineering input and recommendations but does not hold approval authority for capital investment or policy decisions.

    Technical Competencies

• Expert knowledge of engineering principles and rail/metro systems.
• Advanced understanding of railway safety standards and regulations, including EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC standards, and relevant local railway regulations.
• Strong capability in RAMS, FRACAS, FRB, Change Management, and assurance processes.
• Advanced data analysis, modelling, automation, and dashboard development.
• Ability to interpret complex technical drawings; AutoCAD proficiency.
• Strong understanding of international engineering and maintenance standards.
• Knowledge of fleet modernization, refurbishment, and obsolescence management strategies
• Competence in project engineering and technical risk management, including CAPEX/OPEX evaluation and lifecycle cost analysis (LCC)

MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS
